A Modal Parametric Method for Computing Acoustic Characteristics of Three-dimensional Vocal Tract Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
A model for calculating the acoustic characteristics of three-dimensional vocal tract con guration is presented. A cascaded structure of rectangular acoustic tubes, connected asymmetrically with respect to their axes, is introduced as an approximation of the real vocal tract geometry. Both propagative and evanescent higher-order modes are considered in these tubes. The number of higherorder modes can be selected independently in each tube, which signi cantly decreases the instability of computation caused by the evanescent higher-order modes. Calculation results for two con gurations are discussed.

Numerical simulations of acoustic characteristics of vocal-tract model are performed with three-dimensional radiation and wall loss. A method to calculate transfer characteristics suitable for three-dimensional vocal-tract models is proposed. And the simulation results show that the simulation under the lossless condition potentially causes unrealistic result, and wall loss is needed for the th...

We describe our progress on the construction of a combined 3D face and vocal tract simulator for articulatory speech synthesis called ArtiSynth. The architecture provides six main modules: (1) a simulator engine and synthesis framework, (2) a two and three-dimensional model development component, (3) a numerics engine, (4) a graphical renderer, (5) an audio synthesis engine and (6) a graphical ...
متن کاملThree-dimensional rectangular vocal-tract model with asymmetric wall impedances
A method to compute the acoustic characteristics of a simplified three-dimensional vocal-tract model with asymmetric wall impedances is presented. The acoustic field is represented in terms of both plane waves and higher-order modes in tubes. This model is constructed using a connected structure of rectangular acoustic tubes, and can parametrically represent acoustic characteristics in higher f...
متن کاملComparison of vocal tract transfer functions calculated using one-dimensional and three-dimensional acoustic simulation methods
Acoustic characteristics of the vocal tract have been investigated extensively in the literature using a onedimensional (1D) acoustic simulation method. Because the 1D method assumes plane wave propagation only, it is recognized to be valid only in the low frequency region (below about 4 or 5 kHz). Recently, a three-dimensional (3D) acoustic simulation method was developed, to obtain more preci...
متن کاملVelopharyngeal insufficiency studied using finite-element models of male vocal tract with experimental verification
Finite element (FE) models of acoustic spaces corresponding to the human nasal and vocal tract for vowel /a/ are used for numerical simulations. Simplified FE model of the vocal tract for English vowel was created from geometrical data published in literature and for the Czech vowel by transferring data directly from MRI images. The nasal cavities were added to the models manually according to ...
